Services

It’s essential to be clear about the services of a book editor. Finding the best editor at the right time for your manuscript is vital to a successful outcome. I believe a novel should go through the different levels of editing to make it the best it can be. There are varying descriptions of what copyeditors do, so it is crucial to determine exactly what the service will provide.

Copyediting services with Word on the Sheet are recommended for manuscripts in their final draft. That’s right. Your FINAL draft, or what I so eloquently call “as close to the final format as it’s going to get!” I provide a detailed review of the mechanics and intricate details of your manuscript and ensure that the book meets overall standards for correctness. This is one of the final stages of editing after previous editorial passes with other editors are complete. (See further information about Development and Line Editors on my Resources page.)

I offer my Quality-Done-For-You Method:
✍️Stylistic Success Sheet: Outlines the individualized details of your manuscript’s vocabulary choices, spellings, format, linguistic preferences, etc., to ensure your style remains consistent and intact.
✍️Full Manuscript Health Check: Includes a holistic review for technical consistency, accuracy, correctness, and completeness.
✍️Optimal Reader Experience: Maintains your voice and ensures your story is reflected in a clean, polished final format ready for the world to enjoy!

Check out my 3 Service Packages and reach out if your novel is ready for copyediting.

What to Expect

Process

Onboarding Questionnaire:

I will send over some questions to determine your manuscript's genre, length, style choices, where you are in the editing process, and your timeline. We want to ensure we are a good fit, and I am the right editor for your book at the right time!

Sample Edit: After review of your responses to the questionnaire, I will ask for a 1500-word (6-page) sample from the middle of your book. I provide a complete editorial pass for this document. The preferred format (and Chicago-recommended format) is left-aligned, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12 pt. font on an 8½ x 11 page. I work in Microsoft Word Track Changes to make suggestions and queries. I will return this sample edit to you to provide an overview of how I will work with your content, how we will work together, and how the services can improve your work.

Contract: After the sample edit, and if we decide we are a good fit to work together, I will send a contract for signature outlining the terms and conditions of our agreement, including agreed-upon payment, start and end dates, cancellation policy, responsibilities of each party, etc.

Payment

For an Advance Booking (over one [1] month out), my payment structure consists of the following two (2) payments:

  • A Non-Refundable Booking Fee, to reserve your slot in my schedule, due within three (3) days of receipt of the contract

  • Balance Remaining for final payment due within seven (7) days of the completion of the project

Rowan is so helpful. She is such a brilliant editor! She pointed out things in my book proposal that needed editing that I would never have thought of. Editing is definitely Rowan's calling, and I recommend her to anyone writing ANYTHING!"
